Borders Authority Publishes Register of Crossing Points and Opening Hours

The Borders Authority of the Velocity Interoperability Network today published the register of crossing points at the boundaries of the Network. The register lists eight crossing points: four road crossings, a rail crossing, a maritime quay, a freight gate and a pedestrian and cycle crossing. Five of the eight are staffed by the Authority from Monday 7 September 2026; Westbrook Freight Gate follows on Tuesday 8 September, Hollowmere Lane Crossing on Wednesday 9 September and Ashgrove Crossing on Monday 14 September.

Southbank Quay and Meridian Rail Crossing are open at all hours. The road crossings are open between 06:00 and 22:00 at Northgate and between 07:00 and 20:00 at Eastfield Road; the smaller crossings keep shorter hours, which are set out in full on the Crossings page of this site. Outside the published hours a crossing is closed, and travellers are directed to the nearest open crossing on the same boundary section.

At every crossing point, persons present an identity document accepted by the Network and, where they carry goods, a declaration. The Authority carries out the check on behalf of the departments and offices concerned, so that a traveller is checked once. The Authority expects the great majority of checks on persons to be completed within ten minutes and will report on check durations in its quarterly statistics.

The register is maintained by the Authority and will be updated as arrangements change. Changes to hours, temporary closures and works affecting a crossing are published as notices on this site.
